Alpha Courses
The popular Alpha course is well-known as an introduction to Christianity for anyone who wants to discover more about the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions. Over 2 million people in the UK and 10 million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world.
The Alpha course is held regularly at BRBC. The first session usually starts with a meal followed by a short talk considering the relevance of Christianity in today's society.
For further details about the next scheduled course at BRBC please contact Jonathan Armstrong on 01284 760348 or 07901 650222 - or send an email to: . To read more about the Alpha course in general please take a look at the Alpha.org website.
Beetons Lodge
In addition to our activities for young people and families, we also have a longing to share Jesus with senior citizens. As part of this outreach, on the first Sunday evening of each month, we visit Beetons Lodge sheltered housing for the elderly in Bury St Edmunds. We organise a service in the Residents Lounge - normally starting around 8.00pm and lasting for around 30 minutes.
Busy Bees
Busy Bees is a Mums and Toddlers Group for all those (Mums and Dads, Grandmas and Grandads) who have, or care for, babies and pre-school children. The group meets at the Church each Tuesday morning from 9.45am to 11.30am during term-time.
This is a great opportunity for the adults to chat with other parents and for the children to interact with each other with a break out for Bible story times every other week. Coffee is served from the hatch and the children have an organised drinks and prayer time. Busy Bees has a very friendly atmosphere and can be a time of encouragement and support for young busy parents.
Crèche Facilities
Our crèche facility operates during the Sunday Morning service so that parents can leave their babies and toddlers in the care of experienced staff. The crèche is designed to care for children up to the age of 3-years old. Toys and books are provided in the small crèche room next to Sunday school. Included in the program is a story-time, followed by a very simple activity. Sometimes the children will sing, and there is always a small snack and a drink provided. If you are a visitor, you are very welcome to use this facility.
At around the age of 4-years (depending on circumstances) the children are encouraged to join the Little Soldiers group.
DNA (Disciple, Nurture, Action) Groups
These are small informal home group meetings, held every third week on a Tuesday at 7.30pm. They include a time of Bible study and discussion based around a question sheet, which is then followed by prayer time - all in the relaxed atmosphere of various homes within the membership of BRBC in Bury, Rougham, Hessett and Woolpit. There is also a daytime meeting at 1.00pm at the Church.
DNA is open to all those who wish to attend and is a valued time to share, encourage and get to know others better over a cup of coffee.
Quotes about DNA
"I find it easier to pray at a DNA group"
"We don't just listen, we discuss too"
"I prefer a smaller group"
"I feel we can ask questions, and help each other"
"We can share prayer needs with one another"
FEAST (Friends, Eats And Study Time)
This group meets once a month on a Saturday evening to provide an opportunity for teenagers to be together outside of the usual church surroundings. It is also for those who may like to find out more about the Christian faith; held in an informal environment of a home, they enjoy prayer times, study, discussion, and of course food!
Fellowship Lunch
Fellowship Lunches take place once a month between October and April on a Thursday at 1.00pm. There is an after-dinner speaker who is invited to present the Christian message. The lunches are regularly attended by up to 50, both ladies and men - mainly in the over 60s age group. Friends are often made over the meal and people return regularly. The food is always of a high quality and it’s not unusual for the men to ask for more! If you have not been before and would like to attend, speak to either Barbara Drury or Mary Balmer.
Hot Zone
Hot Zone caters for children aged between 7 and 12 years. They meet from 10.20am each Sunday morning for informal chat and activities. At 10.45am they join the main service in the Church and return to the Church Hall just after 11.00am. The programme then consists of singing, quizzes, prayer and mission. At 11.30am the children are split into classes, according to age, for Bible teaching.
Intermediate Youth
Intermediate FOY (Fellowship of Youth) is our 'middle school' (ages 9 to 12) youth group and meets on a Friday evening between 6.30pm and 7.30pm in the Chapel Lounge. The vision and aim of the leaders is to ensure that Jesus is clearly explained to the youngsters.
The evenings are always full of fun, hectic and often chaotic! The programme of activities is always varied - sometimes action-packed ideas such as dodge ball, snatch the bacon (occasionally at the Sports Hall in Rougham) - and sometimes quieter activities such as cooking cakes, pizzas, or bread in the Church kitchen. The Intermediate FOY programme runs during the school term.
Junior Youth
Junior FOY (Fellowship of Youth) is aimed at children aged between 5 and 9 years of age. This is an active and high energy group of youngsters that need constantly to be kept occupied. The programmes of crafts, games and Bible stories are organised each week and offer a structured and unique evening of fun and learning for the children.
All the activities are managed carefully with a dedicated leadership team to ensure safety and consideration for others at all times. The Junior FOY programme runs during the school term.
Ladies' Bible Study
The Ladies Bible Study is held in the Church Lounge each Friday from 9.30am to 11.30am. The meeting is open to all ladies who want to join together to study the Bible in an informal setting. Starting with coffee, the meeting then moves on to the study and ends with a time of sharing and prayer. There is space set aside for a crèche area where small children can play while the Bible study is taking place.
Ladies' Meeting
This is a traditional meeting, consisting of hymns, Bible reading and a guest speaker. Meetings are held at the chapel, on the second Thursday of each month at 2.30pm.
Tea & biscuits are served after the meeting and this social time is a valued part of the afternoon.
Little Soldiers
Little Soldiers is our ‘young’ Sunday School for children aged from 3½ to 6-years that meets upstairs in the Church Lounge on Sunday mornings. The group gathers in the Lounge before the service, from 10.30am onwards, then join with the main Sunday School to come into Church for the first 20 minutes. The Little Soldiers programme consists of Bible Stories, singing, and play activities. Visiting children are always welcome.
Mission Committee
The mission committee coordinates our many mission activities, both home and abroad. Much of this work involves gathering information so that the Church can pray in an informed way and offering guidance on how we can best use the 10% of church income that is set aside for mission work.
Prayer Meeting and Bible Study
This meeting is key to the Church activities, and is an essential time for the church family to pray together, to learn and study more of the Bible, and to grow and be encouraged in our personal relationships with Jesus.
This meeting is held at the Church each Tuesday between 7.30pm and 8.45pm (except every third Tuesday when the DNA Groups meet).
The Bible studies are normally led by Pastor Kenny, although on occasions external speakers are invited to tell us about the Christian work that they are involved in.
Road to Emmaus
These meetings are held on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm at the home of David and Shirley Romberger in Rougham. The discussions offer a practical overview of the Bible for new Christians and for those who want to increase their Bible knowledge; often as a follow up to the Alpha Course.
Seniors
Senior FOY (Fellowship of Youth) is our teenage youth group that meets on a Friday evening between 8.00pm and 9.30pm in the chapel lounge. This is an open youth club, and a regular meeting place for friends, both from the village and from school and college.
The programme of activities is varied; the Summer means light evenings and so most of the activities are held outside with games on the grass at the rear of the church building, or events offsite. Examples of favourites would be camp fire cooking and car treasure hunts! The winter months mainly centre on the lounge with favourite activities being quiz & food evenings.

The programme usually runs for about an hour and is rounded up with a spiritual 'Quiet Time' when the group reflects on what it means to be a Christian and how this affects the way we live our lives. The final half hour is an informal time to chat, with drinks and food, and a time when the youngsters can just enjoy being together There are also occasional weekends away - such as the recent trip to Derbyshire.

Sunday Morning Prayer
Sunday starts at 10.00am with an informal time of prayer for anyone who wishes to attend. This is an opportunity to pray for the services of the day, as well as other needs within the fellowship, and a time to give thanks. This meeting is currently held in the vestry.
Sunday Morning Service
Our Morning Service begins at 10.45am and finishes at around 12.00pm. Our minister, Pastor Kenny Ross, usually speaks at these services - but on occasions we have visiting speakers from other churches. Our services are a blend of traditional and contemporary, and as a growing church, our aim is to cater for all ages. We are Christ centred and love the Bible and all its teachings.
Children and young people meet with the whole church for the first 15 minutes of the service, before moving to their own groups for the rest of the morning.
Visitors and friends are warmly welcomed, with refreshments served afterwards.
The Sunday morning children’s work is split into 3 age groups (Little Soldiers, Hot Zone, or Teen Searchers) and operates throughout the year including the school holidays. The program includes singing, quizzes and challenges, and other fun activities all designed to share and teach the truths about Jesus. A team of teachers support the programme, all who have been approved by the Child Protection Agency.
A crèche is available during all Sunday morning services.
Sunday Evening Service
The Evening Service starts at 6.30pm and lasts for about an hour and has a similar content to our morning service. Some evening services are followed by a short communion service. Our minister, Pastor Kenny Ross, usually speaks at these services - but on occasions we have visiting speakers from other churches or Christian organisations.
Teen Searchers
